Commissioner Valentino
speaks at May 8th Board of
Directors meeting

Our thanks to Eden Condominium for allowing us to use their conference
room this year for our meetings. We had a very good turnout. and everyone
was comfortable. Commissioner Valentino was generous with his time and
brought us up to date on many issues that he is involved with in our
regional area regarding transportation, mass transit and meetings with
state leaders in Tallahassee, as well as the challenges facing District
II. The members asked many straightforward and timely questions about the
future of the island. Commissioner Valentino again promised his commitment
to the Perdido Key Neighborhood Plan and it's vision for the island.
Although we did not see eye to eye on every issue, the discussion was a
healthy exchange of information. As he wrote in his
PNJ April 29 Viewpoint article. Commissioner Valentino
continues to state that he does not think government should micro manage
businesses and that he supports the Hotel-Condo definition change. We are
disappointed and do not understand his rational, as government already
legislates hotels and condos. We believe this ordinance is being pushed
forward to benefit a very select few special interests. We will continue
to work with other concerned groups, including those on Pensacola Beach
urging the commission to abandon this change to the county Comprehensive
Plan. We will keep you informed.
